From the 2nd letter of Paul to the Corinthians
For if a man is in Christ he becomes a new person altogether, the past is finished and gone, everything has become fresh and new.
**We spend our lives building ourselves. Some of the building materials for our lives are given to us through our experiences and relationships, and they become part of us and we can't seem to change that. Other things become part of who we are by our own choices. Wherever we are in life, we often view ourselves as the sum total of what we have constructed so far. That includes the joy and the pain; the good and the bad.
**When we come to the Messiah, we come as we are. Yet He promises us a new life. When He calls us to follow Him, we pack everything up- the sum total, and we bring our baggage. Jesus will spend time with you and help you unpack the baggage of your old life.
**There are things from our old way of life that we must leave behind. He will show us what to let go of. It may be sinful habits or unholy patterns of thinking. There might be relationships that must end. But we all have baggage that will not fit into our new life in Christ. You see, He has called us to himself, so we can honor the Name of our Father and His Son.
**Very soon you will find that Jesus will begin to open the painful baggage of your life. He will put His light in the dark corners of your heart and mind. You know, the places where we bury things that hurt us; The dark corners where we hide the memories of being hurt by others and the pain we have caused people we love. Jesus came to bring healing and renewal. Just as The Savior touched the man with leprosy, with loving mercy He will make you whole.
**Some of our life's experiences God will use. There are things that we go through in life that will prepare us to be a light for others in similar circumstances. When we come to Jesus for salvation, we receive the Holy Spirit. That Spirit keeps us in Jesus. He is our guide, our comforter and He is the Spirit of truth. In Christ, and in the power of the Holy Spirit, we can embrace our New Life!
Romans 6 4 Therefore we were buried together with Him through immersion into death —in order that just as Messiah was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
For the glorious name of the Lord is blessed forever and ever. From sunrise-brilliance to sunset-beauty,
lift up his praise from dawn to dusk!
From the the book of Psalms, 95th
Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
Psalms, 100th
Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!
Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good.
His unfailing love continues forever,
and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
**In ancient days, the nomadic people of God would worship Him in mobile "tents" and later in beautifully constructed temples. There was instructions given in the Torah, guiding them in their worship, and God would meet them there in His power and glory. When Jesus came announcing the Kingdom of God, he began to tell the people of a newness of worship.
The old ways were yielding to a new.
From the Gospel of John, 4th chapter
21 Jesus said, “Believe me, woman. The time is coming when you will not have to be in Jerusalem or on this mountain to worship the Father. 22 You Samaritans worship what you don’t understand. We Jews understand what we worship. Salvation comes from the Jews. 23 The time is coming when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. That time is now here. And these are the kinds of worshipers the Father wants. 24 God is spirit. Those who worship God must worship in spirit and truth.”
25 The woman said, “I know that the Messiah is coming.” (Messiah is the One called Christ.) “When the Messiah comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Then Jesus said, “He is talking to you now. I am he.”
From the letter to the Romans, 12th chapter
So brothers, since God has shown us great mercy, I beg you to offer your lives as a living sacrifice to him. Your offering must be only for God and pleasing to him. This is the spiritual way for you to worship. 2 Do not be shaped by this world. Instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you. And you will be able to know what is good and pleasing to God and what is perfect.
**The Torah of God is being written on the hearts of His children. That is- His instructions and commandments, His truth and revelation, His way of life for us and our identity in Him.
**Our Father has given us His Holy Spirit to live within us and seal us in His Son Jesus, until the day of our redemption...the day He takes us home to Himself.
From the gospel of John,16th chapter
13 But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will lead you into all truth. He will not speak his own words, but he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is to come. 14 The Spirit of truth will bring glory to me, because he will take what I have to say and tell it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine. That is why I said that the Spirit will take what I have to say and tell it to you.
**He is... The Almighty God over all His creation, holding everything together by the word of His power, giving life and taking it away, raising up and bringing down as He desires.
He is holy and righteous, faithful and true.
He is coming to bring judgement upon all flesh. Yet He has sent salvation in the name of Yeshua (Jesus), so that all who believe in Him will escape His wrath, hidden in His Son, saved by His grace!
Let us worship our God in the name of our King!
From the letter to the Philippians, 2nd chapter
Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Tell of His wonderous works, proclaim salvation in His name!
From the gospel of Matthew, 5th chapter
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
**If you have trusted in Jesus for salvation, you have joined a long history of people who bear witness to the risen messiah, the anointed one! The disciples of Jesus in the bible were students of the Torah (God's way) as taught by their Rabbi-Yeshua (Jesus). He opened their hearts to see new & fresh, the revelation of Yaweh their God.
They left everything and followed him in his ministry and they loved him dearly. He was taken from them and put on Roman cross and crucified unto death. Their grief was bitter and they were disillusioned and lost.
In God's loving mercy towards us and by the glory of His power, He raised Jesus from death!
Those disciples were eye-witnesses to His resurrection. They walked with him again. Their joy was restored and their hearts were mended. Jesus gave them a commission, a cause to embrace and purpose for their new lives. "Be my witnesses"
He was leaving them to go be with the Father, but not leaving them alone. The Holy Spirit was coming to empower them to be His witnesses! To share with the world the things He taught, the miracles He performed and His resurrection from death. And this Spirit would be with them as they call upon all men to repent from sin and put their faith in this Messiah!
Jesus once told them, my kingdom is not of this world...
From the gospel of John, 18th chapter
Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”
**On the day Jesus ascended before their very eyes, rising into the clouds to be again with his Father, He left them (and us), with these words...
From the book of Acts, 1st chapter
On one occasion, while he was eating a meal with them, he emphasized that they were not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father’s promise.
5 “You have already heard me speak about this,” he said, “for John used to baptize with water, but before many days are passed you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
6 This naturally brought them all together, and they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you are going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”
7-8 To this he replied, “You cannot know times and dates which have been fixed by the Father’s sole authority. But you are to be given power when the Holy Spirit has come to you. You will be witnesses to me, not only in Jerusalem, not only throughout Judea, not only in Samaria, but to the very ends of the earth!”
With courage, compassion and love lets call those who are lost to a new life in Jesus!
Live your lives in love—the same sort of love which Christ gives us
From the letter to the Colossians, 3rd chapter
12 God has chosen you and made you his holy people. He loves you. So always do these things: Show mercy to others; be kind, humble, gentle, and patient. 13 Do not be angry with each other, but forgive each other. If someone does wrong to you, then forgive him. Forgive each other because the Lord forgave you. 14 Do all these things; but most important, love each other. Love is what holds you all together in perfect unity.
**For God so loved the world, … He loved you and me so much,... that he put His beloved Son on the cross of crucifixtion to suffer holy justice in our place. This love required the greatest act of giving the world has ever known. But it set us free. From this act of love comes forgiveness. Our guilt has been taken away, placed upon Jesus once for all. We are now received into the fellowship and family of our Heavenly Father and we are now called the sons and daughters of God. He tells us to love one another.
From the first letter to the Corinthians, 13th chapter
4-8 Love is patient. Love is kind. Love does not envy. It does not brag. It is not arrogant. It does not behave indecently. It is not selfish. It is not irritable. It does not keep a record of wrongs. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never comes to an end.
**Love must be expressed to others.
We love people through our words and actions. We are called to treat people with love, by patiently and kindly preferring others before ourselves. Among friends or strangers, and in the home with our family, our conversation and behavior should be seasoned with the love of Christ. Extending grace and forgiveness when we have been mistreated is always a demonstration of love. Having genuine joy and happiness when others receive good things is another. Be intentional. A lifestyle of humility instructs our behavior in love. Earnestly pray for these things and God will build them into your life.
Because we have been forgiven, we must forgive.
Because we have been shown so much grace and patience, we must show the same.
Because we have been loved and not condemned, let us love.
"so that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven"
**Our love toward others demonstrates God's love.
From the gospel of John, chapter 13
1-5 Before the festival of the Passover began, Jesus realised that the time had come for him to leave this world and return to the Father. He had loved those who were his own in this world and he loved them to the end. By supper-time, the devil had already put the thought of betraying Jesus in the mind of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son. Jesus, with the full knowledge that the Father had put everything into his hands and that he had come from God and was going to God, rose from the supper-table, took off his outer clothes, picked up a towel and fastened it round his waist. Then he poured water into the basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to dry them with the towel around his waist.
**Jesus had come from heaven where he shared in the glory of his Father from eternity. He knew he had come to do His Father's will and lay down his life for hopeless people. Those who would murder him were drawing near. Spending some of his final hours with his followers, he humbled himself and washed their dirty feet. Even the feet of his betrayer. These were common men, called out from their daily lives, with their own personalities and faults- just like all of us.
31-35 When he had gone, Jesus spoke, “Now comes the glory of the Son of Man, and the glory of God in him! If God is glorified through him then God will glorify the Son of Man—and that without delay. Oh, my children, I am with you such a short time! You will look for me and I have to tell you as I told the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot follow.’ Now I am giving you a new command—love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you must love one another. This is how all men will know that you are my disciples, because you have such love for one another.”
**What is at stake in our loving one another?
The very name of God Himself and the reputation of Jesus His Son and our Savior!
